Background

“Learning design is not about content delivery. It’s about changing what people can do.”

Dr. Walter Mfuko holds a Doctor of Education in Instructional Design from South College, an MBA from Virginia Wesleyan University, and a B.A. in Sociology and Business Management from Elms College. That combination — behavioral science, business strategy, and learning theory — shapes every project he takes on.

Over 13+ years, Dr. Mfuko has worked across corporate L&D, K–12 education, and higher education, building everything from SCORM-compliant onboarding modules to full university LMS UX overhauls. His work is grounded in ADDIE and SAM methodology, Universal Design for Learning, and Section 508 accessibility standards.

He is also an early and deliberate adopter of AI-augmented learning design — using tools like Synthesia AI, Claude, and LLM workflows to accelerate production timelines without compromising instructional rigor.

Based in the DC Metro Area. Available for contract engagements and full-time roles in instructional design, learning technology, and LMS strategy.

Philosophy

Every project starts
with the learner.

01

Evidence First

Every design decision traces back to a learning objective rooted in data — not assumptions. Needs analysis is not optional; it’s the foundation.

02

Accessibility by Default

UDL and Section 508 compliance aren’t added at the end — they’re built in from the first wireframe. Everyone deserves access to learning.

03

Rigor Meets Speed

AI tools accelerate timelines without cutting corners. The frameworks stay intact — ADDIE, SAM, Bloom’s — only the production velocity changes.
